Montfort Matriculation School, St. Thomas Mount, was started in the year 2002 to fulfill dreams of children. The main objective of the school is to impart holistic education to children through various curricular, co-curricular and extra-curricular activities, taking care of the physical, intellectual and spiritual aspects. It is the only school that is officially declared a “Disabled Friendly School” in the State of Tamilnadu.
In the past the teaching-learning procedure was simple, taking into account the simplicity of the day-to-day living. Preparing pupils for the future was not an issue of complexity. But the scenario has changed. We have no idea of what the world will look like in a few years from now. Helping children to be prepared to meet the challenges of the future is our prime concern.
Learning is a self-motivated process, in which childhood struggles have to be understood and respected. At Montfort, we allow children the delight in taking their first shaky steps, meeting those first intriguing challenges. Every programme at Montfort is therefore Child-centred, fully organized and carried out by children themselves. In the process they learn discipline, develop their physique,
acquire and assimilate knowledge and also become socially aware and responsible citizens. This will lead them up the winding road towards their dreams.
The Sun is a whole body from which rays of different colours are emitted. The main driver of energy is the Sun from where the colour waves originate. Each colour wave traveling in its own wavelength has a unique quality and hence has a unique influence on people. The visible light which is a mixture of seven colors gets manifested in violet, indigo, blue, green, yellow, orange and red (VIBGYOR). The qualities of these colours are manifested in each person depending on its intensity. But the spectrum after all literally displays a continuum of colours, one blending into another. Therefore, striking a balance and having all the qualities of the seven colours blended into a single person makes that person a whole being. When all the qualities such as Intellectual, Spiritual, Social, Environmental, Inspirational or Emotional, Potential and Physical are blended into a person in the correct proportion, that person is considered to be a whole being. He or she will be brilliant and radiant like the sun, spreading warmth and peace around.
A holistic curriculum helps students learn to better understand themselves as well as others and their relationship with the Universe. Our education ideology is built on the seven types of growth based on the seven colours of the spectrum, helping us understand that there are no unintelligent people. All are intelligent beings with different built-in abilities. At MMHSS, it is our responsibility to help pupils discover themselves and their strengths and to develop their relationship with the society and the Universe as a whole. It is our responsibility to blend the qualities of the seven colours in the right proportion, moulding our pupils into whole individuals who are self-integrated and linked to all other life forms on Earth.
At Montfort we are setting up a new value-based trend in our culture. We call it the Montfortian trend. The fantastic team of teaching and non-teaching staff contributes in every sphere to the school’s excellent functioning, thus up holding the sentiment of Montfort School which is, “Montfort - A Home Away From Home.”
